Meet FM Milan Jocev, a Chess Player, Coach & Steamer

The biggest challenge for chess players nowadays is that playing chess is not lucrative enough. What we can do to make it better?!

There are many challenges in the world of chess, but what is the biggest obstacle for Chess Players to become professionals and earn a decent amount of money from chess?

Join the series of interviews about what is your biggest obstacle in the world of chess, if you want your story to be published, write to info@outpostchess.com now!

Before that, take a pause and read what FM Milan Jocev thinks of this topic...

1. What do you find as the biggest challenge for chess player nowadays?

I think the biggest challenge for chess players nowadays is that playing chess is not lucrative enough. For example, not every prize is going to cover the accommodation expenses and people are less motivated to perform well.

2. How do you search for a new chess engagement (clubs, tournaments)?

On a daily basis I’m checking chess-results.com to see if there’s any upcoming tournament. Sometimes tournament regulations pop up on social media, but OutpostChess is becoming the main source of information of that sort.😊

3. What do you think that is the biggest obstacle for improvement in chess?

I think the biggest obstacle for improvement in chess is a lack of time to do it. People who are not fully in chess have regular jobs and even if they find some time, they don’t have energy that’s needed. People who are fully in chess, usually have some other “gig”, like coaching, streaming, etc., which also takes a lot of time and energy. One other thing, when you’re coaching someone who is of significantly lower level, you will inevitably drop your level of play if you don’t put in some extra work.

4. Do you think you can live out of chess (make enough money)?

I think it’s possible for me to make a living out of chess (for example, through coaching, content creation). A bigger challenge would be to make a living out of chess strictly by playing tournaments.

5. Beside a chess player, do you have any other role in chess?

I’m also a coach and a streamer on Twitch. (scaredlion94, remember the name 😉)

Sure we will Milan. Don't forget to subscribe and follow him at the Twitch channel.

Looking foward to hearing more on this topic.
