Most chess players finish a game and immediately jump into the next one.

That’s a mistake.

Real improvement doesn’t happen while playing, it happens after, through analysis.

With Outposty AI on Outpost Chess, game analysis becomes interactive, personalized, and actually useful. Instead of just seeing engine lines, you can ask questions, understand mistakes, and learn concepts tailored to your level.

In this guide, I’ll walk you through how to analyze one game using AI, exactly how you should do it to improve faster. This is how I do it:

1. Start with the Opening

After I finish my game, I click on the “Review” option. Once I enter the game, the first thing I do is click the Review button.

…and you get this:

I’m always unhappy when I see that I had 4 blunders… but still a good result! Let’s go ahead and analyze where these mistakes were made.

What to focus on, ask Outposty:

  • What was the opening? Did I follow opening principles?
  • Where did I deviate?
  • Was my position already worse early?

What else I asked:

  • “Where did I leave theory?”
  • “Is this opening still playable after move X?”
  • “What is the main idea in this position?”
  • “What should my plan be here?”

When I realized I had entered in a Sicilian Defence opening, I remembered that I had kind of forgotten it 😉 (it happens!), I continued the analysis. The next moves were developing, pretty standard for this type of position… and then came the moment. 9. f4…

2. Identify the First Critical Moment

Every game has a turning point, a move where the evaluation changes. This is where AI becomes powerful.

Here I was thinking whether to keep the game calm or to go for the aggressive f5, but of course, I asked the Outposty AI what it recommends. From what I can see in the position, it’s roughly equal, I’m just slightly better/equal.

💡 Key takeaway: If you understand why, you don’t need to memorize! (So I asked ;) ) Here’s what else I asked it:

  • Why isn’t the move f5 the safest option here?
  • Have I made any key mistakes so far?

These are very important questions for me because I want to truly understand the position, and Outposty helped me learn that more difficult part 😊

Okay okay, I get it, it’s risky, but I like playing like that, so I went for it anyway. I won’t do it next time, I promise! :)

More ideas on “Ask Outposty”

  • “Why is my move a mistake?”
  • “What was the best move and why?”
  • “How should I think in this position?”

Blunder time - most interesting part of the game… I hate it when I overlook things, but it happens, if you’re a chess player, the sooner you get used to it, the less you’ll stress and the healthier you’ll be. But the blunders section is always the most interesting, so let’s see what happens in the game… Take a look at the diagram.

I played Nxc2. It was obviously a good move, a free pawn, but… Can you find the move? Me neither, then just ask Outposty these questions:

  • Why is this move of mine a blunder?
  • What could I have played better to keep the position equal?

Anyway, my game should have ended here, luckily, my opponent didn’t see it and made a big blunder of her own, so the final result isn’t really important.

What matters to me is: can you find the winning move here? What did I overlook? If you can’t find it on your own, ask the AI, then send me your answers in the inbox!

This is what I managed to do in the freemium version!

I can tell you it already meant a lot to me, but I want to know more, I want to analyze more, and €4 is really a ridiculously low price.

Join me and enjoy Outposty analyses, let me know what you think ;) Feedback means a lot to me!

Of course, I subscribed right after this game!
